Blessings: Standing Still and Letting God MoveHi everybody! Spring is here! Time to give you an update of what’s been happening! As I said in the title, stand still and let God move, is not the easiest thing to do when you really want things to move. It’s been very uneventful the last couple of months. However, the beginning of the year started out quite busy! I went home to Nashville in January, and I was blessed to do the local television show, “Talk of the Town.” You can watch the clip of the video by going online at Channels 5’s website, www.newschannel5.com, and typing “blind quilter” in the site search box (upper right). After the show, I had the opportunity to be part of the taping of the Country Family Reunion, which is aired on RFD TV and put into DVD’s produced by Larry Black. I was so blessed after so many years to see again and hug Grand Ole Opry Billy Grammer and his wife Ruth. Also, I saw Jim Ed Brown and Jeannie Seely, and finally got to see Barbara Fairchild and her wonderful husband Roy, who I sat next to in the audience. A little background on Barbara Fairchild; I have to tell this story. Many years ago, before I ever started to quilt, Barbara was quilting and I asked how it was done. Her answer to me was, “You probably won’t be able to do it because you can’t see the colors and you might poke yourself with the needle.” Ha! Not saying anything to her, but quite angry inside, I was determined to learn to quilt some day! As you know, I have 650 quilts behind me in 12 years! The most awarding feeling was the expression of pride and amazement I received from Barbara when I showed her the quilt I was working on! It was so overwhelming to have her so impressed that I did something that she thought I couldn’t do. That was just icing on the cake to have her approval! The quilt that I was working on was the Fruit of the Spirit, which has a story of its own too. God is so good! On my way to Nashville, Dallas to Houston, I was praying with someone on the phone, and when I hung-up the two gentlemen next to me said, “I know we are on the right plane! We got God flying this plane!” That was Jeffrey Lawson and his friend! Jeffrey and his wife are very good friends of mine and are missionaries that fly all over the world doing different aspects of ministry. Coincidently, the buyers of the Fruit of the Spirit quilt! As you know, I never meet a stranger, do I? While in Nashville, I stayed with my family, Rosemary and Alan, and was able to see Mandy and Barbara and some other good friends. After coming back to Texas, the story of the Texas Reporter aired on RFD TV on February 5th. The exposure was so overwhelming! People from all over the country emailed me, called me, and purchased quilts. Thanks to all of you! Since then, there is not a whole lot, except for quilting and reading. I read twelve books so far this year! Some of the books I read were Along the Edge of America, Close Friends, and Looking for Alaska by Peter Jenkins. Looking for Alaska can be found on tape. Peter and his daughter Rebecca read the novel, and Rita introduces the chapters, a lot of fun to read! For those of you who don’t know, Peter Jenkins is the gentleman who walked across America in 1973, and is now working on his next novel by driving across America in a ’57 station wagon! The last I heard, he was in rural Alabama and is going to head north for the summer! Smart move not coming to Texas in the summertime! However, I look forward to his visit to Texas, many people for him to meet. Keep doing what you are doing, Peter! He has a lovely family and you can learn more about Peter by going to http://www.peterjenkins.com/Home.htm or become a fan at “Peter Jenkins author” on Facebook. Speaking of Facebook, I now have a Facebook page! Everyone add me as a friend when you go to my website, or search me on Facebook as Diane Rose (Nashville) or click the link, http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/profile.php?id=1349524173.
For what’s happening in the future, I am open to what God can do next! June 24th-29th I am flying to Wisconsin. If any of you watch “Midwestern Country” on RFD, check out Maggie Mae, a rising, bubbly, energetic country star at maggiemaecountry.com. Also visit Maggie Mae’s café in Oxford, Wisconsin. She puts on a wonderful barn dance several times a year, which I will be at June 26th. Come one, come all! I will probably do a song or two with her! It’s been a long time since I’ve done any singing like that! I’m not sure at the moment, if I will have other speaking engagements during this week, so if anyone would like me to speak or share at your church or club, contact me. I am very excited and looking forward to this trip! I will have product with me, quilts and more! As I am getting older, I am seeing my young help getting married. My friends Sandy and Monty Michaels gave their daughter Ruthy away a couple of weeks ago to a young gentleman named Michael, a very pleasant wedding. No I didn’t catch the bouquet. Now girls, remember! If you want me to come to your wedding, you must put big bells on your throwing bouquet, and let me know when you are going to throw it, so it will make it even for all! Like for the month of July, I have Sunny Smith getting married and her sister and the fingers of this newsletter, Vanessa Smith, two weeks later, August 6th! Don’t forget girls the deal!!! These two girls are very special to me. They have helped so much with labeling quilts and typing for me. I’m not losing my girls for help, however, I am just gaining boys to help with maintenance! Thanks Chuck and Vickie for two very godly young women you brought up! For the empty spots in the summer, I am trusting God to fill it with people to see and places to travel. As spring and summer come, a lot of people want to get in shape and lose those extra pounds. No, don’t look at me; this hundred-pound bundle of joy is not going on a diet, but I would like to help all of you get your body in line. My friends Homer and Ruby Owen have an awesome program you can find at www.jacobsspringwater.com. or google Homer Owen Waco Texas. This HCG diet really works and gets you back in shape! Don’t forget the Bob Philips, Waxahachie Festival is October 23rd. I encourage everyone to come, and anyone who would like to volunteer to help me at the booth, please contact me. I will have lots of quilts and other hand-made products. We will have quilts for raffle and new hand-made products as well. Please remember to sign my guest book this year when you come! I look forward to seeing you there! As I said before, I am just standing still and waiting for God to move. Remember that God takes you where He wants you to go, not where you want to go. I pray for each and every one of you, for prosperity, safety, and health. We all need each other. Remember He loves you and so do I! May the Lord richly bless you!
